The "More with Less" programme is a joint initiative from the Dutch government, energy retailers, social housing providers, construction and installation companies. It aims to make 500 000 buildings 30% more energy efficient in the period 2008 - 2011, increasing to 2.4 million buildings by the year 2020 The programme is supported by home owner and consumer representative organisations and aims at specific target groups, home owners, tenants, housing companies and building owners, ensuring that all market parties involved participate and send out the same message. "More with Less" attempts to tackle the obstacles to energy conservation within each target group. The energy efficiency measures and programme benefits are provided at periods within the regular renovation cycle, that is in the case of removal and renovation, when people are already inclined to invest. The programme focuses on enabling building owners to conserve energy with the least possible effort. The entire process, from receiving an certified energy advice up to installing the required energy efficiency measures, is taken care of by the contact person of the building owner. The contact person can be the contractor, the energy counselor, the installor, the architect; it is s/he who is a one-stop contact point and can if needed arrange for various aspects of the programme, subsidies, energy label, offers, finance, etc. To overcome financial barriers the programme ensures fixed monthly expenses. In other words, the increase of monthly expenses for energy efficiency investments will be at least set-off by the monthly gains in terms of reduction of the energy bill. This is accompanied with education in cooperation with consumer organisations and feed back on energy use every two weeks.

AI Demand, War, and Climate Pressure Push World Back To Nuclear

Global energy markets are in turmoil as energy crises keep piling up. The energy-hungry AI boom, war in Iran, geopolitical instability, and climate pressures are creating a polycrisis for the global energy sector, and it’s just getting started. To solve multiple overlapping crises, we will need multiple overlapping solutions. An all-of-the-above solution to increasing energy security is therefore gaining favor on a global scale as the precariousness of over-reliance on limited energy supply chains becomes dangerously clear. While fossil fuels…

China's Battery Giant Bets Big on Sodium as Lithium Volatility Persists

The world’s largest battery maker is taking a step back from the eclectic vehicles sector to refocus its efforts on energy storage. China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (better known as CATL) has been building up its energy storage portfolio for years now, but the company’s transition away from EVs and toward energy systems has been supercharged by the artificial intelligence boom. Five years ago, just 2 percent of CATL’S sales came from battery storage. Today, storage accounts for a full quarter of the megacompany’s…
