The Industrial Facilities Initiative (IFI) helps Federal agencies improve facility energy efficiency. A facility or process is deemed "industrial" if it houses high-intensity processes in addition to conventional comfort processes (e.g., heating, cooling, lighting, domestic hot water, etc.). In addition to improving energy efficiency, IFI helps Federal industrial facilities meet regulatory requirements. This includes Executive Order 13423, which requires Federal facilities, laboratories, and industrial buildings to reduce energy consumption 30% by 2015 compared to a 2003 baseline. Through a partnership with BestPractices under the DOE Industrial Technologies Program, IFI offers expert services, support, and resources to Federal industrial facilities regarding energy, water, and productivity assessments; Outreach; Training; Assistance with implementing efficiency improvements and private-sector financing.
