The Biofuels Industrial Strategy presents South Africa's approach to policies, regulations and incentives concerning the uptake of biofuels. It identifies poverty alleviation and economic development as crucial, and acknowledges the role of biofuels in contributing towards the achievement of the country’s renewable energy goals, energy security and the reduction of GHG emissions. The strategy targets a biofuels market penetration of 2% of liquid road transport fuels by 2013.
The South African Biofuels Regulatory Framework (2020) was approved to provide a policy and regulatory framework for the said strategy implementation.
