The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was updated in 2018 to introduce a broad range of policies and support measures to foster energy efficiency in the building sector.

It notably includes mandatory energy performance standards, with all new buildings to be nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB) from 2021 onwards.
