On 7 June 2023, the Chamber of Mines of Namibia announced the prohibition for the export of certain critical minerals such as unprocessed crushed lithium ore, cobalt, manganese, graphite and rare earths elements. The ban is aligned with the government’s policy to encourage companies to establish processing plants to create employment opportunities for locals as established in the Mineral Beneficiation Strategy for Namibia (2021-2030).
