Bahia issued a decree to launch a green hydrogen program in the state, following in the footsteps of other northeastern Brazil states seeking to leverage renewable power potential through investments in next generation fuels. The plan aims to promote the production of green hydrogen in the state and to direct public resources into research. With the decree, the government will work to develop a regulatory framework that aims to increase the competitiveness of future investments in the state's green hydrogen industry, including tax incentives. In parallel, the state government will be working on a framework for environmental permitting of new green hydrogen projects. As part of the plan, the state government will also seek to support the expansion of renewable power generation with the goal of supplying future green hydrogen production.

Update 21/04/2022: Electricity consumed for green hydrogen is exempted from the ICMS tax (like VAT).
