Montreal bans oil and natural gas connections in most new buildings starting October 1, 2024, for smaller buildings, and April 1, 2025, for larger ones. This regulation aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help the city achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Exceptions include emergency generators, commercial stoves, and temporary heating devices.
