Japan has launched the Global Observing SATellite (GOSAT) series to observe the concentration of carbon dioxide and methane from space. The series consists of GOSAT (launched in 2009), GOSAT-2 (launched in 2018), and GOSAT-GW (to be launched in 2025). The satellites are intended to monitor concentrations of carbon dioxide, validate national anthropogenic GHG inventories reported by each country, and monitor large emission sources of GHGs.
