Pursuant to its 2023 Nationally Determined Contribution (“NDC”) under the Paris Agreement, Azerbaijan has committed to a 40% reduction in GHG emissions by 2050 compared to 1990 levels, conditional on international support (e.g., financing, technology transfer and capacity building). The NDC covers the following GHGs: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons.

Azerbaijan’s NDC also specifies that Azerbaijan will introduce various preventative measures to reduce GHG emissions in the energy sector, such as: preventing losses of energy in the energy sector; reducing greenhouse gas emissions during oil and gas production, transportation and distribution through the use of modern technologies; and expanding the use of monitoring and measuring devices in gas systems.
