The act from 2005 and circular from 2009 was amended in 2014 in accordance with the article 5 and 6 of the energy efficiency directive. The aim is to promote energy efficient behavior in government institutions as well as securing energy efficient operation and maintenance of buildings owned and leased by the government. The target is to reduce the state energy consumption by 14 percent in 2020 compared to 2006. Each year all government institutions must notify total energy and water consumption of the institution to a central database on www.energibesprelseristaten.dk.Municipalities and regions has been part of a voluntary agreement on reducing energy consumption in all public institutions.
