The Indian government supports selected not-for-profit Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in various technology areas, including energy, through grants. This creates an independent channel for directing other policy measures to start-ups, allowing the incubators to choose how to support start-ups and reinvest proceeds. The Department of Science & Technology provides financial assistance of up to Rs. 20 million as grants in aid for seed support to suitable TBIs through calls. Eligible incubatee start-ups can receive support in the form of soft loans, equity, or a combination of these, in addition to business assistance services.
