Building on the Kiribati Development Plan 2008-2011, the National Energy Policy of Kiribati of 2009 aims at providing "available, accessible, reliable, affordable, clean and sustainable energy options for the enhancement of economic growth and improvement of livelihoods in Kiribati €.Provisions of the policy targeting renewable energy include:- Encouraging the use of alternative fuels and renewable energy sources for power generation,- Strengthening the operations of the public and private energy service entities in promoting and implementing renewable energy technologies for outer islands and rural electrification,- Promoting sustainable renewable energy development,- Ensuring that biomass resources are used in a sustainable manner,- Strengthening collaboration with development partners for the advancement of renewable energy programmes,- Promoting and encouraging the use of appropriate renewable energy technologies,- Replicating the successful solar programmes,- Introducing appropriate incentive packages including taxes, duties and tariffs to encourage use of renewable energy, and- Encourage the use of alternative fuels such as biofuels (coconut oil) for transport -Establish coordination for the implementation of climate change mitigation activities through the utilisation of renewable energy resources. Energy efficiency is also considered with provisions including:- Promoting energy efficiency and conservation through programmes, measures, the use of efficient equipment and incentives, and- Promoting the use of environmentally friendly and fuel efficient vehicles

US Crude Oil Inventories Continue To Falter, SPR Struggling To Pick Up the Slack

The American Petroleum Institute (API) estimated that crude oil inventories in the United States fell by 765,000 barrels in the week ending June 19.
