The Indian Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023, a policy which aims to accelerate export opportunities for green hydrogen, through the development of domestic manufacturing and employment opportunities. In the framework of the mission, government financial support is also provided to develop a domestic green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonne) by 2030. In 2024, the government awarded grants to the first three projects in the steel sector.
