The UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has announced £22 million to boost semiconductor industry. Two recently established 'Innovation and Knowledge Centres (IKC)', in Southampton and Bristol, will receive £11 million each to facilitate cutting-edge chip technologies to the market. These centres will focus on technologies of silicon photonics and compound chips.
