Vietnam aims to reduce its GHG emissions by 15.8% relative to a business-as-usual trajectory by 2030, and by up to 43.5% by the same date, conditional on the provision of international support.

In the update of Viet Nam's NDC, it announced that together with other countries, it pledged to reduce methane emissions by 30 percent from 2020 levels by 2030 through the Global Methane Pledge and joined the Global Coal to Clean Power Transition Statement. It reported that several important documents have been issued by the Government and the Prime Minister, including: Methane Emission Reduction Action Plan to 2030 and the list of sectors and GHG emission facilities required to carry out an inventory of greenhouse gas. Through its NDC, Viet Nam requests for international support for research and technological transfer on GHG emission reduction technologies, specifically research on technologies and solutions to reduce methane leakage in fossil fuel extraction (coal, oil, gas).
