China’s medium- and long-term hydrogen plan targets 50,000 hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and 100,000–200,000 tonnes/year of green hydrogen production by 2025, supported by the rollout of hydrogen refueling stations. The strategy promotes clean hydrogen use across transport, energy storage, power generation, and industry. Already the world’s largest hydrogen producer and consumer, China aims to shift toward renewable-based hydrogen. In March 2022, the National Energy Administration emphasized prioritizing renewable hydrogen and strictly limiting fossil-based hydrogen production.
