In the context of the global energy crisis, the government of Peru increased the budget and geographical of its NGV conversion programme, which provides a PEN 1000 support by vehicle conversion. A first enhancement took place in April 2022, and a second one was announced in September 2022.

The Programme, originally launched in 2021, has to date financed the conversion of 53,200 lightweight vehicles, over 70% of which in the sole year 2022. The Peruvian government specifically promoted the conversion process as a way to lessen the effects of fuel price rise.
