As part of its March 2022 "New measures to offset rising energy prices" enacted in response to the global energy crisis, the Portuguese government extended the suspension of the carbon tax increase on fuels, set to expire on 31 March 2022, until 30 June 2022. A quarterly revision is then planned until the end of the year. The decision results in a EUR 0.05/L. effective reduction in fuel prices.
In July 2022, the suspension was further extended to Q4 2022.
