On 3 April, the National Energy Administration and the Ministry of Science and Technology issued the 14th Five-Year Plan for Science and Technology Innovation in the Energy Sector. The Plan addresses technical weak points in the energy sector, and outlines roadmaps and demonstration projects in the following areas:   Advanced renewable energy, including hydro, wind, solar, biomass and hydrogenNew types of power systemsSafe and efficient nuclear energyGreen and efficient fossil energy development and utilisationEnergy digitalisation, etc. The Plan follows a call from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) for SOEs to lead scientific and technological innovation in areas critical for China’s energy and climate goals. Innovation task forces under the supervision of the SOEs should focus their efforts on green steel production and other climate-friendly technologies.
