Austria’s Hydrogen Strategy focuses on the production and use of green hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources to decarbonize industry, energy supply, and hard-to-electrify transport sectors. Key measures include replacing 80% of the fossil-based hydrogen used in energy-intensity industry by 2030, expanding electrolysis capacities to 1 GW by 2030, developing a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure, and promoting research, innovation, and international cooperation. In addition, the strategy seeks to create supportive legal and economic frameworks to encourage investment.
The strategy indicates that EUR 940 million of investment is needed by 2030, creating a gross value added of EUR 368 million and 5000 full-time jobs.
