The completion of the Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant, which construction started in 1984, will be awarded to a consortium.
The power plant, to be operated by Eletronuclear, has a 1405 MW capacity and will provide half the electricity demand of the Rio de Janeiro state, reducing dependency on hydro sources. The construction is planned to reinitiate in 2021 for the plant to be operational by November 2026.
Loans of 14 billion reais will be issued by the Brazilian Socioeconomic Development Bank (BNDES) and state-owned bank Caixa Federal for the project.
