The Austrian railway organisation ÖBB wants to tackle carbon emissions and improve alternatives to airplanes thanks to ÖBB-Nightjets.
ÖBB already operates 19 night train routes. Additionally, they built two new long-distance night train routes in partnership with Belgian SNCB, inaugurated on 25 May 2021. The first trains departed from Vienna, one to Amsterdam and the other to Brussels.
ÖBB then announced plans to invest additional €700 million to expand European long-distance night train connections by 2026.
