Currently there are four industry-related sector networks with the aim of improving energy efficiency;

1) Network for the mining and steel industries, the purpose of which is to increase knowledge and to provide tools for energy efficiency on all levels in participating companies.

2) The network for energy efficiency in various industrial processes, ENIG (founded in 2009), which consists of experts, industries, regional energy planning offices and municipal energy advisors. The objective of the project is to reduce the participating companies 'energy use by an annual 5 per cent or a total of 30 per cent by 2015. Focal areas are e.g. casting, plastics, sheet-metal.

3) Energy efficient sawmills, EESI (founded in 2010), which aims at demonstrating that specific energy use in sawmills can be reduced by 20 per cent by 2020. This includes mapping, modelling, and a plan for demonstration.

4) Project Genial for the aluminum industry in order to increase knowledge and to identify and implement measures.

The Swedish steel association Jernkontoret has also a network for its member companies, but since 2010 without financial support from the Swedish Energy Agency.

China's Battery Giant Bets Big on Sodium as Lithium Volatility Persists

The world’s largest battery maker is taking a step back from the eclectic vehicles sector to refocus its efforts on energy storage. China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (better known as CATL) has been building up its energy storage portfolio for years now, but the company’s transition away from EVs and toward energy systems has been supercharged by the artificial intelligence boom. Five years ago, just 2 percent of CATL’S sales came from battery storage. Today, storage accounts for a full quarter of the megacompany’s…
